Mindset and Movement — Emotional Wellness for a Beautiful (and Busy) Season (Pillar #4)

The holidays bring joy and beauty…

But they also bring pressure, alot of unrealistic expectations, fun memories, family dynamics, and a whole lot of moving parts. Kinda like trying to round up drunked cats on steroids. 

But listen, despite all of that, your mindset and your movement are what help you stay sane and emotionally steady — instead of angry, reactive or overwhelmed.

1. Choose Movement That Brings You Joy

Forget punishment workouts (unless you get a kick out of it).
Forget pressure to run 10 miles a day. What is it that YOU love doing? DO THAT!

On most days, it’s fencing for me. Yes, it’s hard, but I love it.  Other days? It’s strength training or just a long walk with my friend, prayer partner and walking buddy, Aubrey. We took a 6.5 miler the other week. The conversation was so good, we just kept on walking and walking and walking. 

Remember that it’s okay to slow down if you need to. There are seasons for everything and this is the perfect season for:

  • Long winter walks

  • Slow stretching by the fire

  • Gentle workouts if that’s what your body is asking for

  • Dance parties in your kitchen

*Go for movement supports your mood, your energy, and your stress response. It reminds your body that you’re on the same team!

2. Create a Daily Gratitude Anchor

This season can feel busy and emotional — gratitude resets your nervous system quickly.
Try this once a day:

  • Pause

  • Take a slow breath

  • List three things you’re grateful for

(Pro Tip: Try thinking of 3 things you are grateful for as you fall asleep, and when you wake up in the morning.)

*Gratitude lowers stress, increases connection, and shifts you out of survival mode.
